The Book High

I wanted to like this. Really, I did. It had so many great reviews, and I've enjoyed several of Ms. Haimowitz's other works. But there were enough things with this that just didn't work for me that I can't say I liked it.

I think the biggest thing is that it's so short that the resolution ended up seeming WAY too quick and easy. I just found it a little beyond my ability to suspend my disbelief that a sub as experienced and untrusting as Nicky would break after pretty much just one session. The first two times they were together, even being in Nicky's head, I didn't feel like it was doing anything for him.

I suppose it's possible that the Nicky and Devon's first few encounters made me uncomfortable enough to be predisposed to dislike the whole story, but I've read BDSM that was this NMK before and been okay with it since it was obvious it was what the character/s needed. Perhaps I simply didn't connect with the characters?

IDK. Whatever it was, I wanted to like this but couldn't. That doesn't mean I'll give up on Ms. Haimowitz. I've loved her other stuff enough to not give up so easily.
