I read the reviews here before picking this one up, so I knew not to expect much. I'm glad of that. Everyone was right: there's not really a plot, the character development is nearly non-existent, and there are a lot of potentially-interesting world-building things that are never explored or even explained really.
The other reviewers said, though, that this book barely counts as a preface for the following books, so I'm hopeful that the second book will explore some of the things that this one failed to. This book certainly has me intrigued enough to want to keep reading, but I'll hold off on recommending it until I see how the 2nd one goes.
