I agree with what another reviewer had to say about this one: overall good, but not great. I'm also surprised it was a Newberry honor book.
It was lovely, that's for sure. Entirely written in free verse, each chapter could almost function as a poem on its own. My favorites were the chapters about the rules of English and the snake theme that flowed through the first three of them.
This was insightful and touching and sweet, but it didn't feel as profound or as inspirational as I've come to expect from the more recent Newberries.
