The Book High

Cute, sweet story, I was both surprised and not with how similar and different it is from the movie I grew up with. The biggest change for me was that apparently the ruby slippers were really silver in the book... Interesting. It's also interesting that we don't meet Glinda until the very end.

Differences I don't like: the china city and the hammerhead people at the end totally freaked me out, I'm glad they weren't in the movie. I get freaked out enough by dolls, that to have one admit that they're only alive in their own country and become immobile everywhere else... *shudder*

Differences I do like: I really like how the book lets us know where each of dorothys cOmpanions ends up also, so we know they're just as happy as she is back in Kansas.

I also really liked that the witches were less involved in everything than they were made to be in the movie. It made Dorothy seem a lot more autonomous and powerful in her own right.

A cute, fun light read that was just different from the movie I grew up with to keep me interested.
